As fall begins and we enter the colder months of the year, it's important that we keep our bodies healthy and nourished. There are many ways to stay on top of your health throughout the winter, both physically and mentally, so here are a few of our favorites.
Firstly, always stay hydrated. It's important to remind yourself to drink water in the winter - as you won't be reminded by the heat, the same way you are in the spring and summer months. We like to carry a reusable water bottle around with us and drink small amounts at regular intervals throughout the day. This will ensure your body stays hydrated and your mind remains focused. Water also helps rid your body of toxins and will protect your skin from getting too dry in the winter air.
Eat seasonal foods. When it turns to fall, there are many seasonal fruits and vegetables that will help boost your immunity and keep you feeling warm and nourished from the inside out. Think about eating warming meals made with pumpkin, squash and beetroots. You could also work on upping your intake of healthy greens like kale - we love tossing them with salt and olive oil and placing them in a conventional oven until they are crispy for a healthy alternative to snacks, like chips.
Go outside - taking time for a brisk walk in the fall air or a trip to the pumpkin patch will help you absorb some much-needed vitamin D - which will boost your energy levels and improve your mood! Make the most of any sunny days throughout fall and wrap up warm to pop out. When we return from outings, we love to cozy up with a warm drink and light a comforting candle. Our favorite candle for fall days is 'After Hours.' With notes of bergamot, peony and patchouli, it is a warming and relaxing scent - perfect for filling a room with calming energy as you put your feet up and relax.
Adopt a skincare routine. As the weather turns colder, our skin can become dryer from the wintery air. We love taking some time once a day to moisturize our body and apply some skincare to help revive ourselves after trips out in the cold. While we use our products, it's lovely to light a grounding candle to make the routine feel like a proper treat. We love lighting 'Inhale Exhale' while we get into our routine - it's warming and comforting scent of palo Santo/ sandalwood/ sage and smoky vetiver helps you wind down and cleanses your mind of negative energy while you cleanse and replenish you skin.
Finally, as it begins to get darker earlier in the evening, we recommend taking advantage of the longer nighttime and heading to bed earlier. Taking more time to rest in the fall months will help prevent any restless feeling or exhaustion throughout the day when there is less sun out to help us recharge. It's essential to take extra time to rest. This also gives you the chance to get better at staying off your devices in the evening. We recommend picking up a book and reading for 20 minutes before bed - accompanied by the 'Good Night' candle - you will feel ready to drift off into sleep as soon as your head hits the pillow later in the evening.
These are just a few of our favorite tips for taking extra care of yourself during fall. We'd love to hear any of your tips in the comments.
